Dazitol™ Concentrate Is Replacing
Methyl Bromide Worldwide
HERNDON, VIRGINIA – Dazitol is replacing methyl bromide
in developing and developed countries as the soil fumigant
of choice. Methyl bromide is an ozone-depleting gas used to
sterilize soil prior to the planting of about 100 crops.
Methyl bromide is banned worldwide through the terms of the
Montreal Protocol – signed by 187 nations – and
the U.S. Clean Air Act, because it depletes the ozone.
A 100% ban in the U.S. and other developed countries took
effect on January 1, 2005. The U.S. has received a temporary,
limited exemption from the ban on soil use of methyl bromide
for 2005, which was renewed for 2006.
"Champon Milennium Chemicals is proud that we've brought
our world-leading methyl bromide alternative product to market
as a purely private enterprise. We did not receive any funding
support from the US Government and its methyl bromide alternatives
research arm, which is the Agriculture Research Service of
the US Department of Agriculture," says Louis Champon,
founder and CEO of Champon Millennium Chemicals.
Dazitol is a soil treatment: that kills and repels nematodes,
fungus, and pre-emergent weeds. Methyl bromide and Dazitol
are the only two U.S. EPA-registered products with fungicidal,
insecticidal, and nematicidal properties.
Growers who use Dazitol say that it is technically superior
to methyl bromide,
cost-effective, and environmentally friendly.
Dazitol’s patented formula is a liquid blend of essential
oils from plants, which are also referred to as “plant
extracts” and “Natural Chemicals.” Active
ingredients are allyl isothiocynanate from mustard and capsaicin
from chilis.
Dr. Edward Knipling, Acting Administrator of the Agriculture
Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, says:
“It is clear that unless viable alternatives for methyl
bromide are found, U.S. agriculture will be at a competitive
disadvantage in domestic and international markets.”
Dazitol and all Champon products are manufactured in FDA
approved food processing facilities. Champon product ingredients
are FDA GRAS-listed (Generally Recognized As Safe), meet the
requirements of the Food Quality Protection Act of 1996, and
biodegrade into organic matter.
Dazitol and other Natural Chemical products from Champon
Millennium Chemicals are providing growers worldwide with
commercially sound solutions to improve competitiveness.
